WHAT IS BIO-DIESEL?

BIODIESEL is a revolutionary renewable fuel developed by the team of L. B. Aroma & Chem Pvt. Ltd. It is made by processing oil from seeds of jatropha curcas as well as other vegetable oils. Though it burns in normal diesel engines just like normal petro-diesel its advantage lies in the fact that it neither pollutes the atmosphere nor adds to global warming. It has been rightly termed as “ revolutionary natural fuel ” and we need to start using this ' fuel of the future ' fright now if we need to save our planet.

Jatropha advantages are many but experts feel that it is the hardiness and tenaciousness of the plant coupled with its potential to be raised on wastelands and water starved areas that make it an ideal crop. Thus Jatropha has the potential to convert wastelands to profitable ventures especially in India where over 130 million hectare of wasteland is currently available. Over 10 million jobs shall be generated in rural India from this plantation project alone thereby providing a gestalt solution to the unemployment as well as the pollution problem that plagues our country.

WHY-BIO-DIESEL?

BIODIESEL is derived from plants. Mineral fuels are derived from the fossil remains of decomposed organic matter and is extracted from below the surface of the earth. All of us know that the resource of mineral oils are nearly depleted, and the cost of extracting the last reserves has become increasingly high.

Moreover since our country is not self-sufficient in this resource it has to depend on the gulf and other oil rich countries for its source of mineral oil. However its to be noted that our country is very rich in Natural resources and with 130 million hectares of wasteland at our disposal we can generate a substantial quantity of oil from within our country and at the same time provide job to millions. This will also lessen our losses due to import of mineral oil as well as make us more self-sufficient. Apart from the reasons cited above, there are many other advantages of Biodiesel over conventional petroleum products.

BIO-DIESEL ADVANTAGE

Biodiesel is derived from Natural sources and is nontoxic and safe.
Compared to conventional petroleum products, the emissions from Biodiesel are less polluting. Heavy metals are totally absent in the emissions from Biodiesel combustion.
Though Biodiesel does add green house gasses to the atmosphere Biodiesel plantations absorb most of the Carbon dioxide thereby nullifying the polluting effect. In this way Biodiesel is environmentally friendly and does not contribute to global warming as petroleum products do. This is the reason as to why we can say that Bio-Diesel is highly environmentally friendly.
The byproducts of Biodiesel manufacture can be used in medicine.
Biodiesel will make our country more self-sufficient and will minimize our dependence on Gulf and other oil rich countries.
Biodiesel does not add sulphurous oxides to the atmosphere since it contains almost no sulphur as compared to Normal Petroleum diesel which has much higher quantities of Sulphur. Thus Biodiesel will prevent acid rains that is caused due to pollution from emissions of vehicles running on Petroleum derivatives.
Biodiesel production will also generate about 10- 15 million jobs thereby making our country prosperous.
Biodiesel can work synergistically with petroleum Diesel and Biodiesel blends can be used in most of the vehicles available in the market today. In fact it has been found that using Biodiesel blended Diesel not only increases the performance of the vehicle but also decreases the toxic emissions. BioDiesel also has a natural cleaning action and hence makes the engine function more smoothly.
Gradually switching over to Biodiesel will help us make a smooth transition from our current dependence on petroleum products to natural products at a later stage, and we need not be faced with a predicament as petroleum products gradually become scarcer and more expensive due to depletion of their resources. It is to be noted that while Bio-Diesel can be regenerated and grown naturally, petroleum products are on the verge of depletion and cannot be replaced once the current resources are used up.

Main Advantages of Biodiesel

Safety. Biodiesel is non-flammable, and in contrast to petroleum diesel, it is non-explosive, with a flash point of 150°C for biodiesel as compared to 64°C for petroleum diesel.

Biodegradable and non-toxic. Being a "natural" fuel, it is biodegradable and non-toxic. According to the National Biodiesel Board, biodiesel breaks down 4 to 5 times faster than mineral diesel. Hence in case of any spillage of biodiesel into water systems, the environmental impact is minimal.

Meets the strictest diesel emission standards in the world. Biodiesel is naturally almost free of sulphur (max. 0.001 percent and thereby at the limit of its detectability). And because the biodiesel molecule contains more than 10 percent of oxygen, the oxygen leads to an improved combustion and thereby to substantially less soot. If biodiesel is used to fuel all transport vehicles, smog will become a thing of the past.

Closed carbon cycle. Biodiesel reduces emissions of carbon monoxide by approximately 50% and carbon dioxide by more than 75% because the carbon in biodiesel emissions is recycled from carbon that was already in the atmosphere, rather than being new carbon from "dino fuel" that was locked in the earth's crust until we dug it out.

Biodiesel is good for the engine. It has superior lubricity and significantly reduces engine wear. Due to this highly valuable quality, biodiesel is often used as an additive to petroleum diesel fuel. In addition, biodiesel has a higher cetane rating than petroleum diesel, and therefore ignites more rapidly when injected into the engine. This gives more power to the engine.
Can be blended with petroleum diesel. Biodiesel can be mixed with petroleum diesel in any ratio due to their similar chemical structure. The mixture is stable and cannot be separated by mechanical means.
